HOW SHOULD OLDER MEN PROTECT THEMSELVES FROM PROSTATE PROBLEMS

HOW SHOULD OLDER MEN PROTECT THEMSELVES FROM PROSTATE PROBLEMS

It is known very well that as one age, the risk of health problems also increases. Nowadays, people are becoming quite health-conscious from a young age in order to make their lives fitter and better. But then there are some health problems that one cannot predict what can happen and is not always easy to prevent it. One such health problem is Prostate Enlargement or worse Prostate Cancer.

Prostate Enlargement is a health problem for older men, generally who are more than 50 years of age. The prostate is a gland that has a walnut-size and shape. The prostate is part of the male reproductive system and is located around the tube which carries urine out of the bladder. The prostate becomes enlarged as the man becomes older. However, if the size of the prostate grows out of limits then it can cause numerous health issues and a life-threatening case if not managed properly at the right time. But what is necessary to keep in mind that prostate problems are treatable and it does not always mean that prostate problems will turn into cancer.

However, some preventive steps are always advisable from the medical point of view.  The following steps can be taken by men to avoid prostate enlargement:

  1. Exercise Daily - Nothing can beat the exercises. This is not only for the prostate problems but for any health issue that one faces. There can simply be no substitute for exercises. As for prostate problems are concerned, exercise like in any other case will keep the body fit and functioning and hence, keep the body in check.

  2. Maintain a healthy weight - Like exercises, maintaining a healthy weight is equally a compelling thing that a man should ensure. Men who are overweight or are obese may have an increased risk of developing prostate problems and later prostate cancer. If men are heavy on weight, then they should ensure that they work upon their weight. This can especially be done by choosing the kind of food being consumed or the choice of food ingredients. One has to be careful particularly about the number of calories that are consumed.

  3. Have a balanced diet -  This is another extremely important point that one should keep in mind that as one gets older, he has to become more particular about the kind of food choices that he is making. A man should choose a diet that is rich in nutrients and low on fat. When it comes to nutrients, one should consume food such as fruits and vegetables. Fruits and vegetables are full of vitamins and will never go to waste. However, what should be avoided is fatty food such as meats, nuts, dairy products and oils. It is generally seen that those men who have prostate cancer tended to have fatty and oily food. Having said that, it does not mean that consuming fatty and oily food does not lead to prostate cancer.

The above steps are just preventive in nature but again there is no guarantee that these can prevent prostate problems and cancer. Thus, one needs to get a routine health check-up to know what is the status of the prostate health.
