what is a urologist?

What is a urologist?

Urology Department

Urology is a medical specialization that deals with the urinary system of both men and women. Urologists are doctors who specialize in the treatment of this medical branch.
Urology offers a wide range of variety and choices, letting patients experience the best treatment and get relief from all the pain they are suffering from. A urologist is the part of healthcare that deals with the treatment, examining, and diagnosis of the illness related to the kidney, ureter, and reproductive systems. Many people think that it is only allied with males, but it is just a misconception; even females and juveniles need to consult a urologist when they encounter a problem.

Why does one need to consult a urologist?

You can consult a urologist if any of the following situations is experienced:
-Traces of blood while urinating
-The repeated urge to pee
-Frenzied sensation while urination
-Weak urination control
-Loose bladder
-Struggling to pee
-Weak urine flow
-Experiencing uncomfort while urinating

One should immediately consult a urologist before things can turn worse and cause a lot of damage to the patient and his health.

What Are The Urological Illnesses?

Problems related to the human body make things difficult when kept untreated, especially in the urological and reproductive systems. There are many diseases and illnesses related to it:

Kidney Stones:

Kidney stone is an irregular-shaped element. These can be made up of calcium, uric acid, struvite, and cystine elements. In most cases, if the size is small, it is not even encountered; huge size acts as an obstacle and causes more illness.

The root cause behind kidney stones is the low content of water in the body. Individuals who consume less water in a day are more prone to this illness. Thus it is recommended to have a minimum of 3 litres of water a day.

BPH (Enlarged Prostate) :

The prostate gland helps make semen, a fluid that contains sperm and is surrounded by the tube that excretes urine out of the body. With the growing age, it grows bigger.

Problem is caused when it grows beyond the limit; it is known as benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH). BPH is neither cancer nor increases the chances of having cancer, but its early symptoms are similar to prostate cancer.

Kidney Cancer:
Kidney cancer begins when healthy cells start to grow excessively in both kidneys, forming a mass known as Renal Cortical Tumour. If the tumour is malignant, it would expand its roots and spread to other parts of the body.
There’s no unique reason behind this illness; it can be due to overconsumption of certain medications such as aspirin and painkillers, smoking, obesity, family history, long-term kidney disease, and whatnot.

Prostate Cancer:

Prostate cancer is the proliferation of cancer cells in the Prostate Gland. A common type of cancer found in men; it has a slow-moving growth. Majorly found in older men with chronic health diseases. It flourishes like any other cancer in the human body, majorly due to the growth of other cells.

Urinary Bladder Cancer:

Urinary bladder cancer is an etiological disease with heterogeneous features, characteristics, symptoms, and histories with a high recurrence rate. It is the tenth most common cancer in females and the fourth most common in males.
Traces of blood in urine, the urgency to urinate, and burning sensation while peeing are the most evident symptoms of this disease.

Urethral Stricture:

The main function of the urethra is to pass urine in males and females. It is a thin tube that also plays a crucial role in ejaculation for males. Swelling, injury, or infection that leads to blockage or slowing down the flow of urine in the tube is known as urethral stricture.

Erectile Dysfunction:

Difficulty in having or maintaining a constant erection is known as Erectile Dysfunction. It can be caused due to physical or psychological disbalance. 4/10 men face this after the age of 40 years,
It is necessary to openly talk about sexual health to the doctor if one is suffering from this illness for a proper cure,

Male Infertility:

Male fertility depends on the amount and quality of the sperm ejaculated; if it is not moderate, there can be a problem getting pregnant and conceiving.
It is a widespread issue faced by more than 25% of couples; it can be caused due to vasectomy, sperm antibodies, sexual problems, low formation of hormones in the pituitary gland, unhealthy lifestyle, or genetic issues well.
