WHAT FOOD ITEMS TO EAT FOR A HEALTHY GALLBLADDER

The gallbladder is an organ that is located under the liver which stores the bile which is produced by the liver. Gallbladders are full of bile before a meal but after taking the meal, the gallbladder is empty and flat. It is in the shape of a small pear.

The main function of the gallbladder is to send the bile to the small intestine through a series of tubes called ducts wherein the bile helps digest fats. However, it should be noted that gallbladder is not an essential organ for the functioning of the body. Yet for those who have a healthy body should follow the right food eating pattern in order to avoid gallbladder problems or stones.

There are some food items that will promote gallbladder health in a positive manner, some of them which are :

  1. Plant-based food - Plant-based food is full of nutrients where the diet comprises a range of plant foods which is a good source of vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants. Such green food items contain antioxidants that are nutritious and helps the body get rid of toxic molecules known as free radicals. Free radicals develop in the body because of the result of natural processes and environmental stresses such as processed foods. As free radicals build up inside the body, oxidative stress can result in causing damage to the gallbladder. 

  2. Lean protein - Protein is very important for the repair and growth of body tissues. Red meat and dairy products are particularly good sources of protein however, consuming red meat and dairy products in high amounts can have immense stress on the gallbladder in a negative way. Some of the best lean protein food items which are also low in fat are poultry, fish, zero fat dairy products, nuts and seeds, soy products and legumes. Processed meats should be avoided as it contains added high in added salt. One can say the same for having food with less or no sugar as it is not good for gallbladder health.

  3. Fibrous food - Fibrous food is good for digestive health, and it may offer protection from gallbladder disease by helping in the movement of food through the gut. Fibrous food aids in lowering the production of biliary sludge which is a substance that increases the risk of developing gallbladder disease. Having high fibre food helps in reducing weight also. Some of the prime sources of fibrous food are fruits, vegetables, legumes, nuts and seeds and whole grains

From the above, we can see the top three sources of food that help in preventing gallbladder diseases such as gallbladder stone or gallbladder cancer. A healthy diet should always be followed in order to ease out digestion which in turn helps the gallbladder not to take the stress. By having a balanced diet of the above three types of food, one may not only prevent oneself from the gallbladder problems but also stay fit in general which has become all the more important in today’s times of hustle and bustle environment of the urban city.
