As men get older, there are quite a number of health problems that they are at a threat due to which they have to be aware of the kind of food they are consuming and the kind of lifestyle that they are leading.

While it is true that one should lead his life carefully so that later a bad habit does not result in a severe health problem. However, when it comes to health problems like prostate-related problems, one is a bit perplexed as to what is to be done by men to avoid prostate-related problems.

In such a scenario, the immediate action that can be taken by men in order to prevent themselves from the threat of prostate problems or prostate cancer is that of consuming the right kind of diet that will ensure and boost the prostate health.

Some of the food items that will protect the prostate are :

  1. Tomatoes - Tomatoes are known for their powerful antioxidants called lycopene. It may be helpful in preventing prostate cancer as well as reduce tumour growth among men with prostate cancer. Cooked or pureed tomato products are a better option when it comes to consuming tomatoes. Certain tomato food items are tomato paste, spaghetti sauce, sun-dried tomatoes, tomato juice and ketchup.

  2. Broccoli - Broccoli is a vegetable that contains several complex compounds that may be helpful for men when it comes to protecting them from prostate problems. In broccoli, there is something known as sulforaphane, that targets and kills cancer cells while leaving normal prostate cells healthy and unaffected.

  3. Green Tea - Green tea is a beverage that does not only serve as a perfect drink for detoxifying the body but also decrease the risk of developing prostate-related problems. However, one has to probably consume more cups of green tea in order to truly prevent the threat of prostate problem or cancer. 

  4. Legumes - Legumes such as beans, peanuts, and lentils are truly beneficial normally and for preventing prostate cancer as it contains biologically active plant compounds known as phytoestrogens. Isoflavones are one such phytoestrogen that is there in legumes. They may contain cancer-fighting properties which helps in suppressing tumour growth in prostate cancer cells.

  5. Fish - There is nothing like fish as it is a source of polyunsaturated fats, like omega-3s and omega-6s contain essential fatty acids. Fatty acids are not synthesized by the body. Having a healthier balance of omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids may help prevent the occurrence of and progression of prostate cancer.

  6. Pomegranate Juice - Pomegranate is full of antioxidants just like red wine and green tea. It is treated as ‘miracle fruit’ because it prevents several chronic diseases to take place and the same could be said for prostate as well. It may help in targetting the prostate cancer cells and prevent prostate cancer. 

Hence, from the above food items mentioned, men can lead a healthy life and also boost their prostate health by consuming foods that are rich in those substances that will both fight the prostate problems as well as protect the prostate from any problems and cancer. Men should ensure that they continue to lead fit lifestyle along with a proper diet for the overall effect to take place on the prostate.
