RG LUDHIANA: Successful Robotic Repair Of Complex Recurrent Incisional Hernia
FACULTY:
Dr. Rohtash Luthra – Consultant, Gen Laparoscopic & Bariatric Surgery
PRESENTING / CHIEF COMPLAINTS:
A 55 year-old female presented with recurrent abdominal swelling at the previous surgical site, suggestive of recurrent abdominal wall herniation.
CLINICAL FINDINGS:
- The patient had a significant past surgical history, including:
- Open hysterectomy.
- Open appendectomy complicated by bowel perforation, requiring major open laparotomy.
- Previous hernia repair.
- Open cholecystectomy.
Following these surgeries, she developed a recurrent incisional hernia at the previous surgical site.
DIAGNOSIS:
Complex recurrent incisional hernia of the abdominal wall.
TREATMENT PERFORMED:
A Robotic-Assisted Complex Incisional Hernia Repair was performed using the da Vinci Xi Surgical System.
SPECIAL NOTE:
This case highlights Dr. Rohtash Luthra’s expertise in managing complex recurrent hernias using advanced robotic surgery, especially in patients with multiple previous abdominal surgeries and dense adhesions.
The da Vinci Xi robotic system provided high-definition 3D visualization and improved instrument control, allowing safe dissection and precise hernia repair in a complex recurrent hernia case.
HIGHLIGHTS OF THE CASE:
- Complex recurrent incisional hernia.
- History of multiple major abdominal surgeries.
- Dense bowel adhesions to hernia sac.
- Robotic-assisted adhesiolysis and hernia repair.
- Safe and successful surgical outcome.
